Abstract
High flat-top pulsed magnetic field (HFPMF) can provide an extreme experimental environment for physics, chemistry, biology, and other scientific fields. In the last decade, scientific experiments have placed higher demands on the magnetic field strength, flat-top duration, and stability of HFPMFs. To tackle these challenges, this paper proposes an HFPMF system with a dual-coil magnet energized by a hybrid power supply. The inner coil is powered by a 100 MVA flywheel alternator-rectifier power supply (FARPS) and the outer coil is powered by a 24MJ multiple-capacitor power supply (MCPS). During the operation of the system, the load current will produce nonlinear changes, which causes difficulties in adjusting the trigger angle of the rectifier. Therefore, the control strategy for FARPS based on non-linear model predictive control (NMPC) is adopted. Finally, the designed system is modeled in MATLAB/Simulink, which verifies the effectiveness of the hybrid power supply and the control method.
